Our farm currently has two working dogs, one for herding and one for herd protection.

Abby is a one year old Border Collie/Blue Heeler cross. She hasn't had much training but is a herding natural and has moved the goats around the property several times and has gotten them where I need them to go. She herds mostly in the heeler style. She is very friendly and loves meeting people but is shy around children. She currently weighs about 35 lb. She also has what we call ball brain. When not outside working she is constantly wanting to play ball. She is a very active dog, rides on the quad, and just loves being outside.

Maggie is the mutt of the Livestock Guardian Dog world. She is a combination of Great Pyrenees, Anatolian Shepard, and Mastiff and is currently 9 months old. She is very sweet natured and loves her people. She is shy around strangers which we prefer as she is a large dog and can be intimidating. She is very devoted to her goat herd and is in the barn with them 24/7. She will weigh between 100 and 130lbs when she reaches full maturity. We purchased her from a local breeder this April after loosing one of our baby goats to a cougar last year. Since she has been on guard we have had no issues this year.
As you can see, Abby is not at all intimidated by the much larger dog. Maggie will actually flip on her back at times just to let Abby have the upper hand. Maggie is also a sight to see when she pours on the speed. They are a much needed comic relief during the work day.
